There is a lack of social, economic, legal, and educational support in the United States for the growing, non-English speaking immigrant community. In an effort to combat one segment of this problem, students developed the ESL Initiative in January of 2008 to offer English classes, free of charge, to non-English speaking employees on Trinity University’s campus in San Antonio, Texas.
The program seeks to offer quality English and citizenship test courses to groups and individuals who might not otherwise have the chance to receive such instruction. Trinity students, professors, faculty, and employees participate in this program which is currently in its third year of operation.
