Impact on Society
Student’s Role
Impact on Student
by R. W. Ackley, MBA, Ph.D.
I have committed over a year of my time and I am focusing my dissertation on bullying and the effects on the brain. I have facilitated multiple groups and I have impacted children’s lives. I connect with children and they want to share the painful incidents with me. I teach them to stand tall and give them the self-esteem to stop the bullying.
After one of my programs, students from different grades wrote me cards to thank me. A little girl came up to me in tears and said that she promised not to bully and that she is going to miss me. The students empower me to want to do more.
For 2011, I redesigned the program to be topic specific and focus more on empathy, self-esteem, empowerment, and working together to stop the bullying violence. I have researched topics, studied behaviors, and examined different programs. The next step is to test the new program and see how it can impact the brain.
I want to demonstrate that a prevention program will create awareness and help students understand that bullying has serious effects and consequences. The program is designed to demonstrate that the opposite of bullying is team building!
